MORE TO IT
MORE TO IT
It’s rarely just fashion. What about strategy? What about the meaning? What about the person wearing it? See, for me, there’s more to it.
Dig in with me one fabulous blog post at a time.

What to Wear For Canada Day
Canada Day is a sunny feeling day for me regardless of the weather. We are so lucky to have a day off that says, “Happy birthday to us, take the day.” Oh, Canada. With a country so prosperous and diverse as ours, I was curious to know how people celebrate. After a bit of thought, here’s what I have it boiled down to.
5 Reasons Why I Wear Black to Workout
Working out is not a natural inclination for me. I don’t really enjoy it. I don’t look forward to going. Rather, it’s a necessity for a more healthy, balanced life. I admit, I make excuses and sometimes it takes a lot to haul my ass to class and get moving. Once I’m there, it’s fine. I get through it and bask in that endorphin kick glow afterwards. Like many things for me, working out seems more palatable with the right gear. For me, that’s often times black coloured workout gear.
Comedian Analysis: Three Reasons Why Amy Schumer is It
A couple weeks ago Amy Schumer was presented with the Trailblazer Award at the GLAMOUR Woman of the Year Awards. In her acceptance speech she used her brash, filthy language and deliberate, paced phrasing to entertain and thank her supporters. She, too, openly admitted her weight to the crowd. That’s trailblazing.
Transformational Identity
The announcement and public reveal of Caitlyn Jenner caused quite the stir. The ripple effects of her big Vanity Fair cover cannonball extended past the pop culture world into mainstream grocery store stands and talk show television.
Is There More to #CropTopTuesday than Teen Angst?
What started as a dress code debate in the Toronto area fuelled a small, yet compelling, revolt worldwide. The same source reports that Halket, the founder and loudest voice, went to her social media channels to encourage supporters to wear a crop top on Tuesday, May 26 to show their distaste for the perceived discrimination. The article states the movement dubbed #CropTopTuesday on social networks and school campuses was born. We now know that male and female students alike sported the midriff baring bandwagon.
2 Reviews in 1: PARKSHOW SS15 Calgary
I was excited to attend Calgary’s PARKSHOW SS15 as it’s an opportunity to get dressed up and go out. This is especially important to me as this city feels casual, too casual, and this event can help to change that. At the minimum I feel it’s a step in the direction of a better-dressed Calgary. After attending, I felt torn. That’s a lie.
Pool Style in Las Vegas
So far I have nine Vegas Hotels and Resorts under my belt. That's nine different rooms to study the closets, nine different casinos to marvel at the interior design, decor and gamblers outfits and nine different pools. At al those pools there are many different people form all over enjoying the dessert sun and heat. Over the years, I have started to see some themes pop up. I decided not to focus so much on the pool behaviour. I was more interested in the pool attire.
Was it All A Dream? Cruise 2016
I woke up this morning, arched my back and stretched my arms upwards like usual. I slowly pulled myself up in my crisp white bed linens that smelled slightly of saltwater and realized, wait a minute; I’m on a yacht. A YACHT. This is not usual, this is awesome! The sun was beating in through my mahogany clad bedroom cabin windows so I decided to get out of bed and get ready. This is too good. After I washed up I opened my closet and squeal. Not only was I on a yacht, I have yacht worthy wardrobe.
Best and Worst of the MET Gala
Monday night was THE night in haute couture. For my fashion friends out there you know the importance of the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s Gala annual benefit event in New York City for the fashion world. This year’s theme - China: Through The Looking Glass - was on maximum display on those daunting, red-carpeted steps.
Get the Cure: a Pedicure
Now that it’s, dare I say it, spring, it’s time to pull out those lost relics of Canadian closets: sandals. After being cooped up in boots for the past half year, it’s time to let the toes peek out. My feet have been craving some airtime, big-time. I have quite the collection of open toe shoes ready for the season, but I wasn’t ready. More specifically, my feet weren’t ready. They needed a lot of TLC.
Dove Asks Women to Choose: Beautiful or Average?
Given the choice between 2 doors would you choose “average” or “beautiful?” That was Dove’s latest campaign 's challenge in #choosebeautiful where it explored how women feel about themselves. In 5 major cities: Delhi, London and Sao Paulo, San Francisco, and Shanghai Dove constructed signs above the only two entrances into city buildings. Women self-selected and walked through either the “Average” or “Beautiful” door. Hidden cameras caught the footage.
Where Authenticity Goes to Die? A Look at Coachella Festival Dressing
Like any city's fashion week, trends emerge. However, with the Indio, California bound fashion (I mean music) fans it appears that this is the place where trends get repeated year over year and arguable go to die. Maybe the event marquee says, “Coachella: So many people wearing are the same thing your stupid, unoriginal outfit won’t even stand out!“ Woof.
