We are all waiting… for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Am I right? Of course, the holiday season is too in it’s final surge - like the movie promotions - before the world slows down for a few, quiet and sweet days. But this year it feels different. There’s something special in the air. At the very least it feel different to me. Something is about to wake us up.

I’ve been home ill with a cold and done something I don’t typically do. I am wearing tights , tonnes of uncoordinated layers with no regard for the look. See dressing with intention is a huge yet simple daily joy of mine. But when I’m under the weather, and I am, I can’t even. This got me thinking about what we wear around the house and what that may say about us.

This past weekend I attended two events requiring holiday fashion with a slightly formal dress code. ‘Tis the season. One was a corporate event. It was lovely but there’s not much noteworthy to share. The other was a student how-to fashion show where I showed looks and explained etiquette and fit. The idea is that you hear from those in the know so that you don’t make a fool – or dress like one - when you start your career.

Is it just me or is Black Friday creeping into Canada retail more and more? Our border buddy’s influence is always there. But in the game of retail it’s more than present; it’s strong.

As a kid, there were very few phrases more exciting than, "Make sure you pack your swim suit." I would squeal with delight with the thought of fun in the water. I love to swim. I love water sports. I love hanging out by the water. It's all good. Be it the pool, the beach or a hot tub I was game. I am still game. Water aside, as we grow older the swim gear seems to turns into more of an exercise in anxiety than joy.

Remembrance Day is sombre day. Leading up to the 11th, there is pride filling my heart and quiet reflections in my mind. As I thought about the history, I got to thinking about the uniforms of the effort. Who made them? How many were made? And what impact on fashion did it leave?

Over the past few week a couple heavyweights have announced their departure from their current posts. One was fired: Alber Elbez (Lanvin) and another quit: Raf Simons (Dior). It’s sad to see them both go. But why, exactly, are they leaving us?

Halloween is a fantastic time of year. You get to dress up and pretend you’re someone else for a night all the while stuffing your face with garbage treats and sweets. Sounds great. But what shall you wear? If you’re like me and dressing as a sexy kitten/mouse/first responder/superhero won’t do here’s a few ideas that you should be able to round up at a relatively low cost.

It’s a sad day. One of my saddest. I must say goodbye to someone I am not ready to give up on. I am saying farewell to someone who has left too soon and forever. My beloved beaded leather wrap ankle strap sandals are long past expiry. It’s time for me to let them go. I will ask you all to indulge me in a moment of fashion silence.

Tattoos are everywhere. No longer do actors, models and common people have to hide their ink for every role or runway. As society we have accepted them as more commonplace and not just for sailors and inmates. Thank goodness. I have tattoos but I have limited experience with my sea legs and I’m likely not fit to survive prison life.

One thing I look forward to in fall is going out on the town. Summer can be so hectic and hard to coordinate schedules. The fall seems to bring people back to our city. Last weekend a few friends and I went out to PARKLUXE 2015 Calgary. This time around I had adjusted my expectations on the fashion presentations and instead, focused on the crowds. I wanted to take in what the people were wearing from their own wardrobes.

As we say, “Goodbye September, hello October,” there is no more denying; summer is over. It’s fall. Another shoulder season, and not this shoulder season, is upon us. I tend to try and savour the last feelings of summer knowing that there are over six months of cold ahead of us. Ugh. I know I am fooling myself. It’s time to layer on those fall goodies that have been stowed away.
