Over the Moon with Astrology Merchandise

As a shopper, stylist, and wardrobe speaker I often get asked, “What trends do you love? How about one you don’t love?” I can rattle off more “hates” faster than an auctioneer can try and sell cattle. But that’s so negative, no?

How about I tell you about the trends I currently love? Well, it’s more like one. It’s written in the stars. No literally it is written in the stars.

I am super into astrology these days. Can’t get enough. About a year ago a bestie put me onto Co-Star astrology on Instagram and I’ve been deep diving ever since. Part of me thinks it’s my way of connecting with people about a harmless, third party thing. The other part thinks it’s a pandemic coping mechanism. Either way - or a totally different way of understanding still out there to be unsurfaced - I’m hooked.

Not only do I know my sign, I know my partners, my roommates, my parents, my besties, and my closet work peeps. One of my new favourite ice breakers is to read aloud people’s horoscopes and watch them react. Do they wince? Do they flinch? Do they balk? Phrases like “You’re such a Taurussssss” or “That’s such a Leo thing to do” roll off my tongue with fluid ease.

For the average person, playing along from time to time would be enough. Simply get your kicks and move on with the day. Not for me, no. I have to be extra about the things I love to the point of smothering. “Typical Pisces.”

I have multiple Instagram accounts that I follow, dissect, forward, and compare. I’ve made other friends play along with me by tagging them or calling them to talk about their take over the phone. I’ve downloaded the app and get daily readings and check on my friends who also have the app. I’m tempted to get my birth time verified so that my natal chart readings are the most accurate possible.

It’s also gone offline for me, too. Astrology themed everything is so hot right now. A cute illustrated book for your bestie? Yup that was a stocking stuffer purchased by me for a loved one for the holidays. For my birthday that same loved one bought me a Sephora Pisces themed beauty blender. I already have the lipstick so it’s more than welcome in my collection and I swear it works better than all the other ones I’ve tried before.

My obsession is only compounding with exposure. I am at the mall 30+ hours a week so I can file away all the goodies in my head to pick up after my work is done. Makeup and necklaces for everyone! I have yet to creep into clothing but I haven been tempted by tea towels for my kitchen.

So yeah, though you may think an insider is immune, I fall victim to some trends too. To further establish how far down the rabbit hole I am, I will say that astrology has been around for a long time. Forever, really. That said, it does seem to be cresting in popularity. And I’m lapping it up. It’s so fetching to me that I know I’m about one post-vaccination Mexico trip where I sleep under the stars away from getting a constellation tattoo on my ass. Either that or start a Water Sign cult.

Oh trends. Saying this oft used phrase out loud mostly to myself to make sure I keep my head on. Fashion is a buffet: choose what you like, pass on what you don’t. Even if it’s written in the stars.
