It’s been a tough week. Full honesty, my post election emotional fallout has been quite grey. But I’ve decided it’s time to mop up the puddle I’ve made of myself and move forward. I have to get my mood in check. What I choose to do for myself is dress up. I dress to get myself to where I want to be and in what particular state. If you need some assistance in this are too, here’s my “how-to” guide for dressing for your mood. 

The post I had ready for today was trashed. I, like so many others, was totally shocked as the 2016 American Election results poured in last night. If you asked me a day ago I would have laughed if you told me that was party or leadership I thought I was waking up a neighbour to. I hoped that my neighbours chose love over fear. I dreamed that progress would be the choice of Americans over hate. I wished for a woman in a pantsuit rather than being Trumped.

The wonderful thing about TV is that it tells visual stories. Some stories are familiar. Others may be stories you may not see otherwise. Many stories make you think about what’s really happening in our world. An article from the Guardian a few years back made the bang-on argument why TV is better than film. Some points in praise for TV include the ability to unravel the story over a longer period, richer roles for women and minorities, and it gave us Netflix. Yay Netflix. 

I am no stranger to hyperbolic language. I'm not a fan. When I heard the CBC headline, “Medicine Hat judges ordered 4-year-old not to wear girls' clothes in public,” I thought it was another media attempt at sensationalism. Turns out I was wrong. The details of the story are even more unbelievable than the click-baity headline.

I have been wrestling two seemingly opposed ideals in my head that I cannot shake off. In this mind-boggling time of fear tactics and hate exploitation from the mainstream media and supposed potential nation leaders; I am frightened. I’m frightened that people will make choices based on fear and not humanity. It’s top of mind.

Whil in the Windy City aka: Chicago do as the locals do. Stay near the Magnificent Mile, go take pictures next to the jersey clad Harry Carry at Wrigley Field, and hit up all the attractions with my iPhone camera on and ready to capture every millisecond. Ha. I kid. I have no idea what the locals actually do here in Chi-town so I'll stick to blindly thinking it's the tourist stuff.

What.Is.Going.On? What’s going on is that women continue to be the victims of unwanted physical – and sexual – contact right out in public. During the holiest of times: Fashion Week. In most cases the assault occurs but goes without penalty. 

If you’re as devoted to the internet as I am, you’ve been hearing the conversations south of parallel 49 around becoming woke, black lives matter, and the absolute ridiculous racist threats from the Trump campaign. It’s easy for Canadians to laugh at the absurdity and failings of our divided neighbours. But I urge us Canucks to not be so quick to judge.

TV's biggest award night was this past Sunday. The Academy rewarded the crème del la crème at the annual Emmys. The anticipation, expectations, and disappointments for who will win run high. So does my style curiosity as I relish in seeing the looks on the red carpet.

As much as I love the summer I welcome the fall for one reason only. No it’s not the basic pumpkin spiced lattes that beige people love so dang much that get me going; it’s New York Fashion Week (NYFW). Bring on the runway style, the street style, and the festivities.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I am a binger. A full on Netflix binger that is. There’s something quite delicious – or perhaps just indulgent – about seeing every episode for a series at your fingertips. It's like having the keys to the kingdom. It’s just you, the couch, and a whole schwack of time hitting “play next episode” until you’ve wrapped the season. Ahhhhh.

Before we welcome the last official long weekend of summer, eek, it’s time for the annual MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) style review. There’s nothing like a sticky New York City evening to remind you what’s hot about summer and in music. This year's production was similar to past years: messy camera cuts, click-bait promotions, and naked “fashion.” Same, same aside I did however notice a shift. This year was totally dominated by women in entertainment. Giddy up!
